Types of Radiographs

1. Periapical radiograph
2. Bitewing radiograph
3. Full mouth series
4. Occlusal radiograph
5. Full-mouth survey
6. Panoramic radiograph
7. Cephalometric radiograph
8. CBCT (Cone-Beam Computed Tomography)

Purposes

A. Used primarily for orthodontic planning and diagnosis, provides a lateral or posterior-anterior view of the skull.

B. A comprehensive series that includes both periapical and bitewing radiographs, usually consisting of 14 to 21 images, for a complete view of the dentition.

C. Captures the crown portions of the upper and lower teeth together in one image, primarily used to check for decay between teeth.

D. Focused on capturing images of a specific region in the oral cavity, usually to diagnose issues related to a specific tooth or area.

E. Captures larger areas of the maxillofacial region, including but not limited to the entire jaw, temporomandibular joint, and nasal area.

F. Primarily used for a detailed three-dimensional imaging of the dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths, and bone in the craniofacial region.

G. Used to visualize the entire oral cavity in one image, typically used for initial evaluations, implant planning, or wisdom teeth extraction.

H. Captures larger areas of the maxilla or mandible, often used to locate unerupted or impacted teeth in children.
